You Do Not Have To Tolerate Sexual Harassment In The Workplace

Sexual harassment is all too common in today’s work environment. Employers are required to prevent and correct sexual harassment in the workplace. Unfortunately, it still continues to occur, partially because it is not stopped and partially because victims feel like, or are made to feel like, it is their fault. It is not your fault. You have a right to a safe work environment. Our Indianapolis attorneys can help you stop sexual harassment.

What Constitutes Sexual Harassment?

Sexual harassment is any unwelcome sexual action toward another person, including:

  • Leering
  • Lewd jokes or comments
  • Sending unwelcome sexual texts, emails, notes, pictures or other communications
  • Unwelcome advances
  • Requests for sexual favors
  • Unwelcome touching, grabbing or groping

Sexual harassment usually breaks down into two different forms:

  • Hostile work environment — When an individual is made to feel so uncomfortable because of unwelcome comments, stares, pictures, texts, et cetera, his or her performance is negatively affected.
  • Quid pro quo — When a person in a superior position asks for or demands sexual favors from a subordinate in return for advancement, or not demoting or firing an individual.

Sexual harassment can occur between men and women, with both sexes as offenders, and between people of the same sex. While women are most commonly affected, men have also experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.

Our attorneys will sit down with you to discuss everything that has occurred and what you can do to remedy the situation. Keeping a “paper trail” of what has happened helps us document the occurrences and offers proof, especially of electronic harassment. If you have reported the harassment to your supervisor or to human resources and nothing has been done to stop it, we will follow up on that as well. We will work diligently to protect your rights.
